HOLY SHIT! Facebook and IG are down!

For many of my followers, it feels like the damn apocalypse today! Why? Because even though I preach the fact that you need an email list, some people just don’t believe that. And today has been the day to reinforce my very strong opinion….YOU CANNOT COUNT ON FACEBOOK OR ANY OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA AS YOUR MAIN SOURCE OF POTENTIAL CUSTOMER OR CUSTOMER CONTACT!

Sorry to yell, but I need to pound it in. I have said it so so soooooo many times! You don’t own Facebook. You don’t own IG. You don’t control anything in the social media world except the content that you upload to it.

There is a major outage right now in the Facebook family. It’s affecting an unknown amount of people all over the world. There is no ETA on a fix. I haven’t been able to post or even get on IG since 2:00 pm today. I had content ready to go. But NOPE. Not happening.

So do you know what I was able to do instead? Send emails out to my 10,000 subscribers. I was still able to conduct business and gain new clients because I have built this awesome thing called an email list. There is no relying on messenger (which isn’t working for 1000’s people today).

It’s time to get your head out of the clouds. Social media is a great tool to use but it needs to stop being your only form of communication with potential customers. Today proved that having an email list is pertinent to running a business in 2019 even with all the social media channels out there. At any point, without warning, you could be cut off from anyone and everyone that you worked hard to create relationships with.
